Automatic Weather Stations in Project Areas

Automatic weather stations (AWS) are “meteorological stations from which observations are made and transmitted automatically” (WMO, 1992a). A typical AWS is a rugged self-contained station well suited for use in remote places without electricity supply. Data can be recorded on site or be transmitted in real-time.

There are six AWS installed across strategic sites in the project areas. Two more are set-up by the government's PAGASA bureau to augment data collection and forecasting capacities.
